- Having swept loads of accolades in various prestigious awards ceremonies, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Best Actor at the Golden Globes, and more statues at BAFTA Awards and Independent Spirit Awards, The Wrestler was undoubtedly one of the cinematic heavyweights of 2008. Eighties superstar Mickey Rourke, who took a hiatus from acting and turned to professional boxing for a few years in the early 90s, makes his return to glory playing Randy "The Ram" Robinson in this Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream) film. A headlining pro wrestler back in the late 80s, Randy begins to evaluate the state of his life, trying to reconcile with his estranged daughter Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood) and strike up a romance with an aging stripper named Cassidy (Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei). Yet all these cannot compare to the allure of the ring, which threatens to pull Randy back into his world of pro wrestling...
