- On November 15, 1959, Perry Smith (Clifton Collins, Jr.) and Richard Hickock (Mark Pellegrino) murdered the Clutter family in cold blood. The brutal killings captured the attention of the nation, as well as author Truman Capote (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Assigned by the New Yorker to write about the crime, Capote, accompanied by his childhood friend, Harper Lee (Catherine Keener), author of To Kill a Mockingbird, travels to Kansas where he begins his research. Eventually forming an unlikely friendship with Smith, Capote finds his book nearing completion just as execution day approaches, and realizes his life has changed in a way he never expected.
